a Lewes Pound |
Time for a Folkestone Pound?
Dear Editor,
In the light of recent developments by high street chain stores homogenizing Hythe or retreating from Folkestone a la Perkins, Evans and Madhouse isn't itmaybe time for local small shops to take up the challenge?

One way forward is to encourage small locally run businesses is to have their own local currency like the Lewes pound, but called the Cinque Ports pound and covering both Shepway and Dover district areas.
Imagine going to the Zoo at Howletts, or the Romney Hythe Railway, or shopping and revitalizing Folkestone using the Cinque Ports pound.
Lewes made over 45,000 of these and they are treasured collectors items as well as a tourist must have, so why not here?
Yours
Sue Sheppard
