Open Day Captains Garden 8th May 2023

 

Open Day - Chance to see this 300yr old walled garden opposite Deal Castle which is being brought back into community use by volunteers.

Free to enter - donations to the garden always welcome

Some rough music, rougher cakes and tool-shed tea. Asell as info on the garden and the volunteers plans

NB: There is no parking on site - please use the Castle or Tides public car parks
NB: We have no toilets at the garden
NB: The garden is still a Work-In-Progress so paths can be rough in places with wild bits nettles, brambles and fox holes etc. There is a step down at the entrance. So please be careful.
Dogs welcome with well behaved owners on leads

Fareshare glean 20th April 2023

 

Thank you to all our gleaning volunteers from Hythe Environmental Community Group and our own team from Deal -Renate, Sally, Jill, Elaine G, Andrew, Elaine M, Lucy and Steve.

 
Two gleans today a cabbage glean for FareShare Kent of 80 crates plus another 60 crates/bags for local food charities in shepway, Dover and Thanet districts. A big thanks to farmer Geoff Philpott for hosting us.

We also managed to do a earlier potato glean in Preston. With thanks to Farmer Trevor and Steve Bradley for their support

A total haul for our group today of over 800 kilos and for the total effort about 1.6 tons

Captains Garden @ Deal Castle open day Easter Monday 10th April

Our next open day is on Easter Monday 10am to about 2pm... please pop in to see how we are progressing in bringing this lovely 300yr old secret garden back into community use. 

We are opposite Deal Castle on Victoria Rd Deal. 

We will have some music, cake and stalls from our beekeeper, Deal Hop Farm and Pick Deal Clean 

Nb. No toilets and no parking on site. 

As we are still a WIP our paths can be rough in places. So please take care and may not be suitable for all
