Wild about Gardens - Kent Wildlif Trust - is now open

What is Wild About Gardens?

Kent Wild about Gardens Awards is designed to encourage people to welcome wildlife into their gardens, whatever the size, type or primary use of the garden. We don’t expect you to turn your backyard into a mini nature reserve. Formal front flower beds or chic city gardens can still provide those vital stepping stones needed by our pollinating insects, hedgehogs, amphibians, etc.

The backbone of the scheme is our team of volunteer advisors who visit gardens during the season to assess how wildlife friendly they are and to give advice and encouragement. Unlike other awards schemes, our volunteers are happy to visit a work in progress and there is no overall winner, apart from the wildlife of course.

We are grateful to our sponsors without whom we wouldn’t be able to run the scheme:
Optivo: lead sponsor and sponsor of the “Advisors choice award”
Unipet International: sponsor of the “Best garden for wild birds”
Bumblebee Conservation Trust: sponsor of “Garden with the best buzz”
Kent Bat Group: sponsor of “Best garden for bats”
Kent Mammal Group: sponsor of “Best hedgehog garden”
Kent Reptile and Amphibian Group: sponsor of “Best new or renovated pond”
