Deal With it is the local hub group for Gleaning - Collecting produce from local Farms once the harvest is complete
We are invited in by local farmers but take manage the process on the farm
So far in 2020 we have organised 29 gleans with nearly 9 tons of food collected for our local communities
We work closely with the national food waste charity FeedBack which started a national network of gleaning about 7 years ago as well as colleagues in Hythe Envirnomental Community Group, Kent Gleaning Network
The Produce we collect goes to local food charities, such as:
- Deal Area Foodbank
- Dover Foodbank
- BECHANGE Aylesham
- Deal Salvation Army
- Deal Age UK
- Sandwich Age UK
- Emmaus Dover
- Dover Big Local
- Our Kitchen in Thanet
- Chequers Cookery School
- Meals on the Hill
- Sandown Primary School
- Hornbeam Primary School
- Eyethorne Community Primary School
- United Families
- Talk It Out
- Plus other community cafes
- Plus national food charities like Fareshare Kent and the Felix Project in London.
You can help:
- Joining one of our Gleans or helping to distribute the produce (we have separate mailing list for this)
- If you are local food charity or school who would like some produce
- Or are local farmer who like to donate
