Films at Pine Calyx - 9th April Project Wild Thing

Films at the Pines Calyx: Wednesday 9th April, 11am & 7.30pm  Project Wild Thing

Project Wild Thing is a film led movement to get more kids (and their folks!) outside and reconnecting with nature. The film is an ambitious, feature-length documentary that takes a funny and revealing look at a complex issue, the increasingly disparate connection between children and nature.  And Project Wild Thing is much more than a film, this is a growing movement of organisations and individuals who care deeply about the need for nature connected, free-range, roaming and outdoor playing kids in the 21st century. Hundreds of people have already committed huge amounts of time, energy, resources and money to help get the project where it is today. Which is really just the beginning.

Calyx Films by the Sea

The Bay Trust will be screening a series of educational films depicting various aspects of sustainable living, at the Pines Calyx throughout 2014.  The first film is called Occupy Love, an inspirational film that explores how to create a new peaceful world of health and happiness, for all to enjoy.

Free Entrance* - Licensed Bar – Popcorn available – Doors open 7pm

* Donations welcomed to cover license fees

Occupy Love
Captures the heart of the movement of movements that is sweeping the planet in response to today’s economic and environmental crises. ‘Philosopher-filmmaker’ Velcrow Ripper travels to history-making hot spots, asking the question, ‘How can crisis create a love story?’ Scenes include the Egyptian revolution in Tahrir Square, Spain’s Indignado movement, Occupy Wall Street NYC, The Maple Spring in Quebec, and indigenous activists at the Alberta Tar Sands. The film explores the aspects of this arising that take the form of what Martin Luther King Jr. called ‘Love in action.’ Woven throughout is a deep exploration on the meaning and importance of ‘public love’ – the love of humanity, the love of the planet.

Transition Towns Film ...

We had a showing of the new film on the Transition Towns movement 'In Transition 1.0' at our March Monthly meeting (at DealAbility 4th Tues each month). A great film, very informative, not preachie and really showed the diversity, depth and energy that has been unleashed since the movement started in 2006.

We need to start the debate locally whether this is a route we want Deal to go down. The film is great 'openner' for those discussions & action. We own a copy of the film and we want it to be used. We will be using it again in our meetings but we need you to use it too.

Do you fancy running a 'home meeting' for friends & neighbours; are you a member of another organisation or a teacher/student which would be interested in showing it at you school/college? If so please contact us asap at DealWithItToday@yahoo.co.uk

For more info on the Transition Movement: http://www.transitiontowns.org/

You can watch the film online as well but its 40mins long http://vimeo.com/8029815

The Age of Stupid

Deal With It are proud to bring you a screening of The Age of Stupid on Friday 22nd May at the Pines Calyx, St Margaret's Bay, (near Deal) CT15 6DZ.

The film stars Pete Postlethwaite as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking back at archive footage from 2007 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance? Take a look at the trailer:

The Age of Stupid: final trailer Feb 2009 from Age of Stupid on Vimeo.

The £450,000 budget for the film was raised by 'crowd-funding' - selling shares to individuals and groups - and is therefore completely independent.

The venue, Pines Calyx, is home to one of the UK's most sustainable conference buildings. Tickets are a very modest £3.00 and doors and bar open at 6pm. Bring a picnic to enjoy in the beautiful 6 acre gardens that surround the venue. The film starts at 7pm and will be followed by a question and answer session by guest speakers and a live webcast featuring the director of the film, Franny Armstrong, Nicholas Stern and George Monbiot.
