We had the second part of our meadow making at the Deal Station Meadow this Sunday Afternoon .
11 volunteers out to do the sowing of the Hay Meadow.
This involved mixing the seed with sand and doing a spot of line-shaffling up and down the meadow.

The Deal Big Dig 21/22nd March
Fancy some Hay Meadow Making in Deal? We have our second 'Deal Big Dig' on the Weekend of 21st & 22nd of March at the waste land around Deal Rail Station.
This will be between 10am and 1pm on both days - please feel free to only come to one day or just part of a day: any time you can volunteer will be gratefully appreciated.
Last year we cleared an area of waste land and planned a poppy meadow. This year we want to extend it a bit and plant a perinnial Hay meadow there - this will be a sustainable option for wildlife and especially pollinators like Bees.
Please bring a fork or spade (we do have some spares) and something to drink/eat.
We also want to tidy up where the Apple Tree is in the Car Park, plant some annual meadow flowers and move our two planters on the Ramsgate Platform of the Deal Station Garden.
Interested please email station@dealwithit.org.uk

Deal Station Garden - Tidy up 11th Oct
As our growing season draws to an end, the DEAL STATION GARDENING GROUP invites all its supporters to turn out for a CELEBRATORY TIDY UP on Saturday 11th October, please drop in between 12-1:30pm.
We very much appreciate all the kind words of appreciation of our edible decorative efforts.
During the season we have often been happy to see people carefully helping themselves to ripe produce such as strawberries, rhubarb, herbs, gooseberries and runner beans.
DSGG volunteers have regularly harvested sweetcorn, runner beans, beetroot, chard for the Salvation Army's kitchen.
We started last year with 13 volunteers but numbers have now dropped and we NEED more volunteers - Come and lend a hand on Sat 11th and find out how the odd hour of your time can help our town.
With enough hands we would like to clear tubs and planters, compost green waste, collect seeds and plant up pots (to take to the SEEDY SATURDAY at the LANDMARK on 18th October), harvest beetroot, herbs, beans and chard, plant up onions and flowers for the winter season .

Planting up at the Deal Station Garden ....
The Team were out again today (Sat) at the Deal Station Garden - all nine planters have now had their first planting with a mix of early cropping salad and perennial edibles with some companion flowers.
Our store area has been taken over by tons of strawberrys to go out later in the month.
The crabble apple and poppy areas all look progressing well .... we have a volunteer from one of the houses nr the car park to water the tree. Sarah has done a great job in organising the watering schedule...

We need you on the Deal Big Dig - Saturday 22nd/29th March
We are trying to transform the waste ground on the Ramsgate side of Deal Rail Station into a mini-meadow.
We need to clear the ground of annual weeds and need some volunteers for both sessions (on the 22nd and 29th March).
We will have some tools but please bring your-own (folks, spades, racks) if you have them and gloves.
We have already done a small triangle in the Car park and are working on the waste ground in front of Deal telephone exchange.
The idea is to transform these eyesores into a bee & wildlife friendly areas, make them attractive but also as we are using a poppy mix to remember the 10m dead of WW1.
We will need lots of willing hands to do this - so please do see if you can spare some time.
Both sessions will start at 10am and finish by Noon.
Please contact Steve if you can help info@dealwithit.org.uk

Seeding plans for community garden at Deal station...
| Sarah & Alan from 'Grow Deal' with Harry from Platform 1 |
Deal With It is hosting a gathering of gardeners on Saturday 13th October, to look at a number of ideas to get Deal Growing including a possible community garden at Deal Railway Station.
Sarah
Gleave, meeting organiser said: “Wouldn’t it be great if everyone
arriving at Deal station next year, saw some burgeoning, beautiful and edible
planters and a little community garden?
We hope to form a group of volunteer gardeners over the
winter to make this a reality, following some very positive discussions with Southeastern
Rail.
The purpose of the gathering is to see whether we have a
critical mass of people who want to be involved and to develop our plans.”
Deal With It’s ‘Grow Deal’ was formed to support initiatives
in and around the town to encourage all things related to ‘local food’; from
growing veg & fruit in containers, gardens, garden share, allotments and
the skills to cook and preserve food.
