Volunteer day at Captain's Garden Tuesday 8th January 2019 from 10am

Deal With It working with English Heritage are trying to bring the buildings at the Captain's Garden back into use in 2019.

There are plans for a café in the Cottage and to make the Stable block into a community space / art exhibition area.

On Tuesday 8th Jan we will clearing the stable 10am to 2pm and volunteers are very welcome.

If you can make it please bring gloves / broom/ brush etc

This is part of our partnership with English Heritage to bring the full Garden back in use by the local community.

This work day will be one of a series to get the Stable into a condition that it can be used by the community. There will be a need for EH to do some minor building work to the ceiling and getting the toilet /kitchen operational again during the year.

The Space has electricity, later on water and hopefully WIFI once the Café in Cottage is operational.

We think the space has a lot of potential for community use; classes & meetings, exhibition space, workshop space. please drop us a line with ideas to info@dealwithit.org.uk

The Captains Garden Group has a Facebook page at @CaptainsGardenDeal

The garden team are there every Tuesday and Thursday between 10am to Noon. New volunteers very welcome

The idea for 2019 is to formalise the arrangements with English Heritage for the site by establishing a Community Interest Company (CIC) or similar, with the objective for this year to develop a master plan for the whole site which the wider community in Deal and Walmer can shape.

The site at the Captain's Garden is not a priority for English Heritage within their portfolio nor is it likely they will be able to fund any major development in the near future but they very supportive of our initiative and willing to work with us.
