Thank you to 7 volunteers on today massive potato glean with some 980kilos being collected and distributed to food charities in east kent

Sandown Beach Clean 16th Nov 2025

 

Thank you to our 25 volunteers on todays Sandown Castle Beach Clean; we managed to collected over 20kilos of rubbish today just before the rain landed - a lot of cheap lager cans in the rocks and loads of dog poo bags!

Thanks to our colleagues at Sandown Castle Community Garden Deal Kent for keeping this end of our beach so special.

Our next beach clean is on Sunday 14th Dec on Walmer Green at 10am meet at The Sea Cafe on the Green

Gleaning report for 1st 6months of 2025

Thank you to our 7 gleaners for collecting & distributing a further 576kilos of potatoes today.

So far in 2025's 24 gleans the team have collected some 14tons of produce or about 33k meals.

The Deal Festival is coming to the Captain's Garden on Sunday 13th July 10am to 2pm

Free Festival Day at the Captain’s Garden!

Discover the secrets of Deal’s community garden where a summery feast of art, poetry and music will take place in the middle of the day. One of Deal's hidden gems, this event has something for everyone to enjoy!

Event Highlights:

10–11 AM – Art workshop for children aged 4-11, led by SEAS artists (an adult must accompany children) - no booking required

11 AM–1 PM – Live music from local favourites including the Scratch Band, Landmark Choir, and the DMA Saxophone Saturday group performing Blasio Kavuma’s new piece.

1–2 PM – Poetry open mic session hosted by Deal’s own Phil Welton, under the garden’s iconic tree.

Bring your deck chairs and picnic rugs and spend a magical day soaking up the summer vibes. Stay as long as you like - there’s no better way to unwind!

Thank you to our 25 volunteers on today's Walmer Beach Clean. Beach was in good condition but we still found 7 bags of rubbish.

Walmer Beach Clean Sunday 15th June 2025

 

#GreatBritishSpring Clean - Walmer Beach Clean 23rd March 2025

A damp morning for the #GreatBritishSpringClean in Walmer this Sunday – Thank you to the 22 volunteers out on the Deal With It ‘Walmer Beach Clean’.

In just over an hour the volunteers collected about 15kgs of rubbish – mostly small pieces of plastic

The group organises monthly cleans of the beach on three mile stretch of the Kent coast at Deal & Walmer (with different start points).

The next one will be on Sunday 20th April 10am meeting at Sandown Castle Community Garden - equipment supplied

Come and find out more about our Community Hop Growing project in Deal and surrounding district– the Deal Hop Farm.

In 2017 we launched a patchwork farm made up of peoples’ gardens, allotments, and community gardens & spaces.

In 2024 we had over 260 sites with some 400 people involved. Last year we produced 174 Kilos of hops and six beers with local brewers Chislet, Time &Tide and Shivering Sands

The idea is to work together to grow, harvest, learn, have fun with Hops and produce some quality local beer which is available in local pubs & outlets.

1st January 2025 Beach Clean - Happy New Year

 

Well 1st beach clean of 2025 was a blast today... despite the conditions we had some 24 volunteers today and collected over 50kilos of rubbish off the beach.

We also found some Keys .. (please DM if they are yours)
